Getter 3

Giving hugs !
It's a tank ? It's a robot ? Oh come on... how hard can this be ! Just go and save the world and come back on time to have a cup of coffee !

PansonWorks - how cute can you get ?

Getter
Boss Robot
Grandizer

PansonWorks made a serie of adorable figurines of some of my favorite Shoguns. Made by Banpresto (China) in the 2010's... These were originally not sold but could be won as prizes in Japan.

Sticker Head

Super Robot, ?, France ? Hong Kong ? 1970's ?
Getter 1's long lost cousin, this one was left at birth because he was too ugly.

Maybe a beach toy, or one of these robots you could win at the county fair. The right arm sticker has something of Grandizer... No shooting anything, just kind of hollow and fragile. A wonder he survived.

Hey you ! Gimme your money. We need to buy growth hormones !

Giant Robot, Banpresto, China, 2000's
SD (=Super Deformed) robots sure look cool, but these ones have a slot, collect money and say something through a voice chip when you feed them with coins. Don't trust the banks ? Give your funds to Personal banker Raideen, Account manager Daitarn or just plain Stock broker Getter.  You'll be sure to... Gett your money back with a punch (line) ... Oh well ...

Getter 2 - let me drill you...

Raider, Monogram, USA, 1970's

Why did they call the Getter 2 the "Raider" robot in the USA ? We will never know. The toy/model had 2 "secret" compartments in the feet, but these were just the reminescent battery boxes of a Japnese version of the kit.

Behold ! It's Getter Robot - and it talks ! Well, hmmm... kind of.

At the pull of the string it will mumble something in Japanese in your ear !

It's time to water it down...

The Japanese culture is full of contradictions... What would be as oposite as the zen and the natural beauty of a Bonzai tree ? Well, hmmm - let's see. A colorfull Shogun Warrior to water it ? At least this one does not shoot anything... except for the water sprinkles from it's head.

Bandai SD BB Gundam 045 Shin Gouka Shoretsutei Ryusou Ryubi Gundam

Shin Gouka... dragon Gundam (SD), Bandai, China,
2011

Sometimes building up your own robots is a lot of fun. I got hooked to "Gunplay" - that is, building Gundam robots. Most of them are from Bandai toy company, and they have all one thing in common that ordinary toys don't have: extreme movement. They have joints and articulations made out of "Polycaps" that allows for different poses throughout. They don't need glue or paint and go in different grades (Standard, ... Master, ...) with some of them containing hundreds and hundreds of pieces. It's just a whole new way to kit building !

I liked this one very much because it is a "Shogun Warrior" to the extreme...

Biker Robots

Getter 1 on trike, Modern Toys, Japan,
1970's
Why would you put some of the fiercest robots on a tricycle ? To roam the universe ? They have spaceships and saucers to do that ! To sell some more ? Yep.... good marketing from the guys at Popy... And added play value !
