Before the Rolex...

Robot 8-chan (Hacchan) kid's watch, ?, Japan, 1981

I would have been the most popular kid on the block if i had a watch like this one back then...

Just thinking that only a few years later, Japan would enter the digital age and sell LCD screened Casio's and Seiko's watches that were as accurate as anything Switzerland could offer...

O robot full of air...

Robocon, Popy, Japan, 1970's

I wished I had this one in the swimming pool when I was a kid, instead of the usual ducky floating devices... but then, with all of the circuits in his belly, maybe not a good idea after all 😁...

This is one of the toys that makes me smile, and a perfect addition to the other Robocons in the collection.

Insane in the membrane, Insane in the ...

Take an egg. Give it the diecast treatment. Put a little bit of arms, a little bit of legs and a revolving "eye" function and voilá... you got a robot. Not hard (boiled) really... OK, sorry for the pun. Was this thing capitalizing on the fame of Robocon and the likes ? Sure. But why not go along with a design that has proven itself before...

Robocon flag game

I have never really understood how this thing was supposed to work (all instructions are in Japanese...), but this is the old version of the Robocon flag game (for the modern one, see below). This one came with little flags (for the robot to hold (not shown - if you have a set of these please let me know) and larger flags (in vinyl and plastic) for the kids to mimic whatever the robot did and said.

Going to Vegas, Baby !

Straight from the Time-Bokan / Yatterman series is this little guy. Remember the fuzzy dice people installed in their cars ? Well, here you have the bot-version. Strangely enough, it even appeared in a Gatchaman spin-off later on !
