Blue streamlined Limo

Airline Limousine, Thomas toy, USA, 1950's

At a certain point in the 30ies, it became fashionable for airports and hotels to use modified "stretched" vehicles to pick up artists and celebrities. The Limo was born... read more about it here.

Sometimes I find toys at the fleamarket here in Lisbon (Feira da Ladra) that just ooze kitsch and nostalgia. This felt-doll is one of these. Apple? check! Fig leaves the Vatican could be proud of? check!

I guess these were the toys that were right for a time where people were tired of wars and just wanted to feel free.

Walk the walk, Captain Radar !

Captain Radar, Ball Manufacturing Company, USA, 1950's

Walkers are always interesting toys - making use of gravity, the weight fixed at the waist of the figurine would make it move forward... untill it would fall of the table or whatever other shelf it stands on. Not a lot survived all these falls !

Sometimes the most unusual figurines pop up. This one came from Pèle-Mèle, a second hand shop in Brussels. I am so glad when I can find these unexpected treasures ! A big thanks to Toki No Wa to help me figure out who made this statue.

The Renwal take-a-part spaceman

The concept is great, turn the key on the belly of the astronaut and see him go into pieces... then build it back together. It is basically a 3-D puzzle and has been on my wish-list for quite some time. Still need to find him a helmet though... oh well, the hunt continues...

The Italian NONO robot from Ulysse / Ulisse 31

Nono robot, ?, Ulisse 31, Italy, 1980's

This one is rare. I mean, I don't recall having seen another one. No idea who produced it (it is not licensed - no markings).

It is 20 cm tall and has articulations at shoulders, wrists, legs and feet (not at the head which is one piece with the main body). Blown plastic, paper eyes...

It is bigger and brighter than his French counterpart seen here.

If you have any extra information on this one, please give me a call.

Voltron , Super 7, China, 2020's

Hats off for bringing back childhood memories at a decent price ! Gotta love these ReAction figurines of all the popular 1980's movies and cartoons ! I sure do love 'em !
